No. 406, 1903. —Petition of Rewi Koruarua and 25 Others. Petitioners complain that land at Taumutu, on shores of Lake Ellesmere, Canterbury, intended for the Maoris of that district, has gone out of their possession on long lease through misrepresentation by the lessee, and praying for restitution. I am directed to report that, as no evidence was offered in connection with this petition, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 18th August, 1903. ——■ —

Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, i te mea kaore i takoto he korero hei tautoko i tenei pitihana, na reira kaore kau he kupu a te Komiti. 18 o Akuhata, 1903.

No. 1181, 1901.—Petition of Wi Warena Tuoru and 4 Others. Petitioners allege that Te Huia Block, Whangaroa, was taken from them illegally. They pray for restitution. I am directed to report that, as this petition refers to a matter of policy, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 18th August, 1903.

No. 222, 1903.—Petition of Taituha Hape, Chairman Mahunui Maori Council, Kaiapoi. Petitioner prays that the General Conference of Maori Councils be not allowed to make regulations for all the Councils. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 18th August, 1903.

E inoi ana te kai-pitihana kaua c whakaaetia ma te Huihuinga Nui o nga Kaunihera Maori c hanga nga rekureihana mo nga Kaunihera katoa. Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, kite whakaaro o te Komiti me tuku atu tenei pitihana ki te Kawanatanga kia whiriwhiria. 18 o Akuhata, 1903.

Nos. 1210 and 1282, 1901; and No. 81, 1902.—Petitions of Hekenui te Awhe and 45 Others; Wehi Rangitanga and 45 others; Tanira Tarei and 8 Others. Petitioners pray for rehearing in connection with the Rangitoto A Block. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that these petitions should be referred to the Government with the suggestion that they may be submitted to the Maori Land Council of the district wherein the land is situated to report as to the advisability or otherwise of reopening the case. 18th August, 1903.
