No. 209.—Petition of W. Carlton and 117 Others. Petitioners pray that the Catlin's Eiver Eailway may be extended to Catlin's Eiver or Eatanui. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of this Committee, the Lands Department should be recommended to keep in view the desirability of cutting up the Crown lands affected ma manner that will secure a railway reserve for the projected line, and that the Public Works Department should be recommended to make a trial survey of the line with that view. Bth October, 1895.

No. 140.—Petition of W. G. Collins and 4 Others. Petitioners pray for an annual progressive extension of the railway from Reefton towards the junction of the Buller and Inangahua Rivers. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of this Committee, the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. Bth October, 1895.

Nos. 431 and 432.—Thomas Nutsford and 2 Others, and John McCarroll and 2 Others. Petitioners pray that the North of Auckland Railway may be extended from its present terminus to Whangarei. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of this Committee, these petitions should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. Bth October, 1895.

No. 384.—Petition of M. J. Harrington. Petitioner states that he fell over points on the Railway Wharf at Wellington, and sustained serious injuries; also, that if the jetty had been properly lighted no accident would have befallen him. He prays for relief. I am directed to report that this Committee, while sympathizing with petitioner, is of opinion that he has no claim against the Government. 9th October, 1895.

No. 469.—Petition of Andrew Austin. Petitioner prays for compensation on account of sheep killed on the railway-crossing at Pokeno. I am directed to report that this Committee, while sympathizing with petitioner, is of opinion that he has no claim against the Government. 18th October, 1895.

No. 345.—Petition of J. Mackay and 101 Others. Petitioners state that Richard Clark was killed while getting out of a train at Manganai, and pray for a compassionate allowance to his widow. I am directed to report that this Committee has no recommendation to make. 18th October, 1895.

No. 437. —Petition of M. Prendergast, Jun., and 122 Others. Petitioners pray that the Hyde Railway-station may be moved from its present site at Newtown to the Township of Hyde. I am directed to report that this Committee recognises that the petitioners are entitled to relief, and, as it is impracticable to remove the station, recommends that a flag-station be erected at Hyde Township. 25th October, 1895.

No. 210. —Petition of Edward Edie and 50 Others. Petitioners pray that the Waipahi-Heriot Railway may be extended. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of this Committee, the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 25th October, 1895.
