REDUCTIONS IN RATES AND CHARGES MADE BY THE RAILWAY COMMISSIONERS.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated Ist September, 1892. Ordered, " That a return be laid before this House showing the reductions in rates and charges made by the Eailway Commissioners since they were appointed, with explanations regarding the operation of the same." —(Mr. Buchanan.)

Reductions in Fares and Rates since Appointment of Railway Commissioners.

A 7-mile single-journey fare under the com-mutation-ticket rate, 2nd class, will cost 3fd.; under the monthly season-ticket it will cost 5|d. Newspaper-reporters'season-tickets Maximum charge for either Island fixed. Use extended to private primary schools. Concession made to delegates attending meetings. Concession extended. Enabling school-boarders to return to their homes at holiday times Regulation extended to allow teachers to travel on Fridays or Mondays. Free school season-tickets Religious bodies and friendly societies Athletic teams School-boarders' tickets Previously 50-mile fares, 14s.; now, 50-mile fares, 7s. Teachers' Saturday tickets Bicycles Milk Parcels, etc. Concession made when conveyed as passengers' luggage. Minimum quantity to be charged at grain rates reduced from 2 tons to 1 ton lOcwt., and j charge for quantities less than minimum reduced Previously lOcwt., 50 miles 8s. 9d., 100 miles 13s. 3d. now, lOcwt., 50 miles 6s. 6d., 100' miles 8s. 9d. Rates reduced for distances over 70 miles. Previously, 100 miles 12s. 10d. per ton, 150miles 17s. per ton, now, 100 miles 11s. 7d. per ton, 150 miles 13s. 8d. per ton.
