SUMMARY No. I.—Showing the AGGREGATE AREA, ESTIMATED CAPITAL VALUE, and ANNUAL INCOME of the PUBLIC RESERVES for PRIMARY, SECONDARY, and UNIVERSITY or HIGHER EDUCATION. Compiled from Summary No. 2.

* This is one of the blocks of land referred to in "The New Zealand University Reserves Act, 1875," but further legislation is required, as it has not been defined as prescribed by that Act. See Appendix to Report of Royal Commission, page 3 (H.-1., 1879). Although shown here, it is not included in the totals. The Governors of Canterbury College bate sold reserves as follows :— School of Technical Science, 12,2G9 acres, for £24,538; Superior Education, 1,037 acres, for £2.071; School of Agriculture, 39,258 acres, for £78,516 ; Girls' High School, 2,185 acres, for £4,370 : total, 54,749 acres, for £109,493. The money has been partly reinvested on securities, and partly expended on building*, and the purchase of other land for Agricultural Sloilel Farm. Iu Southland, Olago, 39 acres 3 roods 29 perches in Lumsden Township have been sold, for £3,141 10s., under "The Otugo Reserves Act, 1874." The money is to be reinvested, and the annual proceeds devoted to primary and secondary education.
