C.-6.
1878. NEW ZEALAND. LANDS RESERVED FOR THE PURPOSE OF GRANTING THEM TO MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS (RETURN OF).
GMHJB,J.KJN.
SCHEDULE.
(Memo.) General Survey Office, Wellington, 23rd July, 1878. There are thirty-one applications for endowment under section 350 of " The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," which, with the five passed last session—-Lyttelton, Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Akaroa, and Timaru—make thirty-six in all since the Act became law. Of the thirty-one now to be considered Thames will have to be postponed, as the selection made is Native land still under negotiation. It is impossible in many cases to grant what is asked, as will be seen in remarks of accompanying list. Fresh selections accordingly have had to be made on behalf of some of the Corporations. These have been made on the principle that large Government townships were entitled to greater consideration than small private townships. Care, however, has been taken that each selection would he of sufficient value to let as a farm or small run. James McKerrow, The Hon. the Minister of Lands. Assistant Surveyor-General. I.—o. 6.
