ORDERS OF REFERENCE Extracts from the .Journals of the House of Representatives Wednesday, the 12th Day of July, 1950 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider ail petitions from Ato L which may be referred to it; to classify and prepare abstracts of such petitions in such form and manner as shall appear to it best suited to convey to this House all requisite information respecting their contents, and to report the same from time to time to this House; and to have power to report its opinions and observations thereon to this House : the Committee to consist of Mr. Chapman, Mr. Freer, Mr. Gotz, Mr. Hayman, Miss Howard, the Hon. Mr. Jones, Mr. J. Rae, Mr. Shand, Mr. Tennent, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Bodkin.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1949 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Holland.)

I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and has no recommendation to make. 25th July, 1950, No. 73 —Petition of J. D. Brosnan Praying that his fully accrued superannuation rights shall be protected either by a lump-sum payment or by an increased annual allowance. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and has no recommendation to make. 16th August, 1950. No. 2—Petition of C. Gifford-Moore and Others Praying that a Commission of Inquiry be set up for the purpose of inquiring into the affairs of the Wanganui Harbour. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and has no recommendation to make. 23rd August, 1950. No. 11—Petition of H. T. Harris and Others Praying for inquiry into the proposal to increase the railway bus fares in the Hutt Valley. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and has no recommendation to make. 23rd August, 1950. No. 75—Petition of R. B. Foote Praying for the allocation of a State rental house. I have the honour to report that the member presenting the petition having requested permission to withdraw it, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 23rd August, 1950. No. 7—Petition of Elizabeth Anderson Praying for further relief from taxation in connection with her late husband's estate. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for consideration. 7th September, 1950. No. B—Petition of Estelle N. Davis Praying for discharge from a hospital. No. 71/1949 —Petition of G. Boyd Praying for the enforcement of a Court order. 1 have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. It is the opinion of the Committee that this matter should be referred to the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council and the Department of Lands and Survey to collaborate with the County Council as to the action to be taken to give effect to the order of the Supreme Court. 14th September, 1950. No. 72/1949—Petition of G. Boyd Praying for relief in connection with an order of a Court. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and has no recommendation to make. 14th September, 1950. No. 19—Petition of W. J. Le Couteur Praying for reinstatement in the Government Service and compensation. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and has no recommendation to make. 21st September, 1950. T. L. Hayman, for Chairman. No. 13—Petition of S. P. Bray Praying for investigation into the circumstances of a motor-car accident. Luttrell Praying for compensation for delay in refunding to him in accordance with a Court decision income-tax incorrectly charged and also for legal expenses incurred in contesting the Court actions and taxation claims. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 19th October, 1950. No. 4—Petition of Alice M. Green Praying for legislation to exempt portion of a deceased person's estate from payment of certain duties, or other relief. Ferguson and Others (being Ratepayers of the Papanui Riding of the County of Waimairi) Praying for amendment of the Christchurch Tramway District Act, 1920, to exclude the Papanui Riding of the County of Waimairi from the Christchurch Tramway Board's rating area.
