ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 12th Day of February, 1942. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all Bills ■containing provisions of a technical legal character which may be referred to it, with power to confer and sit together with any similar Committee appointed by the Legislative Council: the Committee to consist of the Hon. Mr. Speaker, Mr. Bodkin, Mr. Broadfoot, Mr. Combs, Mr. Denham, Mr. Harker, Mr. Munro, Mr. Richards, Mr. Schramm, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Mason.) Thursday, the 20th Day op August, 1942. Ordered, " That the petition of B. R. Perry and others be referred direct to the Statutes Revision Committee."—(Mr. Anderton.) Thursday, the 20th Day op August, 1942. Ordered, " That the petition of A. S. Peterson and another be referred direct to the Statutes Revision Committee."—(Mr. Anderton.) Monday, the 19th Day of October, 1942. Ordered, " That the Statutes Amendment Bill be referred to the Statutes Revision Committee."— (Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Wednesday, the 2nd Day op December, 1942. Ordered, " That the Statutes Revision Committee be increased, by leave, to eleven members, by the addition of the name of Mr. Endean." —(Hon. Mr. Mason.)
REPORTS. Statutes Amendment Bill. ] have the honour to report that, the Statutes Revision Committee has carefully considered the Statutes Amendment Bill, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed without amendment. 20th October, 1942.
No. 24.—Petition of B. R. Perry and Others, of Auckland. Praying that further consideration be given by the Government to the case of prisoner Eric Mareo, either by appointing a Select Committee of medical men to inquire into and report on it, or by extending the clemency of the Crown to the prisoner. And No. 25.—Petition of A. S. Peterson and Another (representing the New Zealand Musicians' Industrial Union of Workers), of Auckland. Praying that an inquiry be made into the question of the guilt or innocence of prisoner Eric Mareo. I have the honour to report that the Statutes Revision Committee has, over a period ■of four days, heard counsel for the petitioners and counsel for the Crown on these petitions, and has carefully considered their arguments and the evidence submitted in connection therewith. The Committee has no recommendation to make. 4th December, 1942. F. W. Schramm, Chairman.
