ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the Souse of Representatives. Thursday, the 12th Day of February, 1942. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting ol ten members, to consider all petitions from M to 55 which may be referred to it: to classify and prepare abstracts of such petitions in such form and manner as shall appear to it best suited to convey to this House all requisite information respecting their contents, and to report the same from time to time to this House, and to have power to report its opinions and observations thereon to this House: the Committee to consist of Mr. P. Carr, Mr. Denham, Mr. Endean, Mr. Gordon, Mr. Hodgens, Mr. Kidd, Mr. Neilson, Mr. Osborne, Mrs. Stewart, and 1 the Mover. —(Hon. Mr. Armstrong.) Tuesday, the 17th Day of March, 1942. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of .1941 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. REPORTS. No 62/1941. —Petition of Alice M. Sired, of 29 Maida Vale Road, Koseneath, Wellington, and 33,292 Others. Praying that the provisions of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments be strictly enforced. I am directed to report that as effect has already been given to the prayer of the petition the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2nd July, 1942. N O . 6.—Petition of Bryde M. Sinclair, of 97 Britomart Street, Wellington. Praying for compensation for the loss by fire of Reserve Bank of New Zealand notes to the value of £207. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 2nd July, 1942.

No. 74/1941. —Petition of F. Tindall, of Khandallah. Praying for compensation for damage to personal property allegedly sustained while in occupation of a State house. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred lo the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee is also of the opinion that the sum of twenty pounds (£2O), without prejudice, be paid to the petitioner. 9th July, 1942.

No. 2. —Petition of Harriett E. Vanstone, Widow, of Little River, Canterbury. Praying that a certificate of title be issued to her in respect of her late husband's land. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd October, 1942.

No. 3.—Petition of J. J. I\ McDougall, Retired Seaman, of Wellington. Praying for a rehearing of his case in the Magistrate's Court. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd October, 1942.

No. 4.—Petition of E. F. Shadbolt, of Portage Road, New Lynn, Auckland. Praying for a Committee of inquiry into injustices allegedly suffered by him. I am directed to rej)ort that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd October, 1942.

•No. 7.—Petition of Olive Y. Pearn, of 147 Queen Street, Northcote, Auckland. Praying that improved berthing facilities be provided by the Auckland Harbour Board at Northcote Point. I am directed to report that, in view of the fact that there is an absence of opinion from any of the local bodies concerned, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd October, 1942.

No. 11. —Petition of Ethel R. Page, of Rotorua, and 224 others. Praying that a greater control be exercised over the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquors. I am directed to report that the member in charge of the petition having expressed a desire to withdraw same, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. 22nd October, 1942.

No. 20. —Petition of Ethel M. A. D. Meares, of Cameron Road, Tauranga. Praying for inquiry into alleged loss of property. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 22nd October, 1042.

No. 18. —Petition of Ethel M. A. D. Meares, of Cameron Road, Tauranga. .Praying for compensation for alleged miscarriage of justice. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. W. M. C. Denham, Chairman. 4th December, 1942.
