ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Friday, the 28th Day of July, 1939. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting, by leave, of twelve members, to consider all Bills and other matters relating to mining which may be referred to it: the Committee to oonsist of Mr. Barclay, Mr. Bodkin, Mr. Broadfoot, Mr. Denham, Mr. Goosman, Mr. Frost, the Hon. Mr. Lee Martin, Mr. Monour, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Skinner, Mr. Thorn, and the Mover."—(Mr. O'Brien, for Hon. Mr. Webb.) Thursday, the 3rd Day oe August, 1939. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1938 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session." —(Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Memorandum for the Chairman of the Goldfields and Mines Committee :— Pursuant to section 42 (6) of the Petroleum Act, 1937, Paper No. 57 (Regulations under the Petroleum Act, 1937) stands referred to the Goldfields and Mines Committee.

REPORTS.
Parliamentary Paper No. 57. Regulations under the Petroleum Act, 1937, referred to the Goldfields and Mines Committee. I am directed to report that the Committee has duly considered the above regulations contained in this Paper and is of opinion that they are satisfactory. 31st August, 1939.
No. 55. —Petition of J. Stephens and 40 Others, Mosgiel. Praying that legislation be enacted to give the gold-producers of the Dominion a guaranteed price for gold. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make in regard to this petition. 19th September, 1939. J. O'Brien, Chairman.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee unanimously passed the following resolution : " That the members of the Goldfields and Mines Committee desire to place on record their appreciation of the competent and impartial manner in which the Chairman, Mr. J. O'Brien, has conducted the business of the Committee during the session, and that this resolution be reported to the House." sth October, 1939. A. F. Moncur, A member of the Committee.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Goldfields and Mines Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the services of the Clerk, Mr. Anderson, and that this resolution be reported to the House. sth October, 1939.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Goldfields and Mines Committee, consisting of twelve members, has held two meetings during the session, with an average attendance at each meeting of eight members. The regulations under the Petroleum Act, 1937, Paper No. 57, and one petition were duly considered by the Committee and reported on to the House. sth October, 1939. J- O'Brien, Chairman.
