ORDERS OF REFERENCE.

Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Friday, the 28th Day of July, 1939. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting, by leave, of twelve members, to consider all matters in connection with defence which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Allen, Mr. Andorton, Mr. Barclay, the Right Hon. Mr. Coates, Mr. Cullen, Mr. Frost, Colonel Hargest, Mr. Lee, Mr. Lowry, Mr. Lyon, Mr. Roy, and the Mover."' —(Hon. Mr. Jones.) Thursday, the 3rd Bay of AUGUST, 1939. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1938 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred, to during the said session." —(Hon. Mr. Fraser.)

REPORTS.

No. 109/1938.— Petition of A. J. Stewart, of Nelson. Praying for full military pension with retrospective effect, or other relief. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 15th August, 1939.

No. B.—Petition of Margaret G. Johnson, of Invercargill. Praying for compensation on account of the death of her husband, allegedly arising out of his service with the Army. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 15th August, 1939.

No. 17. —Petition of J. J. Wilson, of Whakatane. Praying for compensation for injuries allegedly sustained while employed with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy. 1 have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 15th August, 1939. W. J. Lyon, Chairman.

No. 44.— Petition of Marlborough Returned Soldiers' Association and Herbert S. Stade, of Blenheim. Praying that further consideration be given to the petitioner for his application for war pension. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee also recommend that the case be reopened by the War Pensions Appeal Board for consideration of further evidence, to be submitted by and 011 behalf of the petitioner. 27th September, 1939.
