Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 28th Day of October, 1937. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting (by leave) of fourteen members, to consider the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill, and to report generally upon the provisions of the Bill; the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderton, Hon. Mr Barnard, Right Hon. Mr. Coates, Mr. Coleman, Mr. Dickie, Colonel Hargest, Mr. Kyle, Mr. Munro, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Robertson, Captain Rushworth, Mr. Thorn, Mr. Williams, and the Mover." —(Hon.-Mr. Parry.) Ordered, " That the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill be referred to the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill Committee." —(Hon. Mr. Parry.) Tuesday, the 30th Day of November, 1937. Ordered, "That the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill Committee have leave to sit during the present sitting of the House."—(Mr. Thorn, for Hon. Mr. Barnard.) Memorandum for the Chairman, Local Government ( Amalgamation Schemes) Bill Committee :— The following Resolution from the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill Committee was adopted and agreed to by the House of Representatives on the 2nd November, 1937, on motion of Mr. Munro, — " That the proceedings of the Committee during the taking of evidence be open to accredited representatives of the press."

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill Committee has passed the following Resolution : " That the proceedings of the Committee during the taking of evidence be open to accredited representatives of the press." 2nd November, 1937.
Local G-oveenment (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill. I have the honour to report that the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill Committee has been unable, in the time at its disposal, to hear the greater portion of the evidence offering for consideration, or to deliberate on the Bill. The Committee therefore directs me, in view of the approaching close of the session and the expiry thereupon of the powers of the Committee, to report the Bill back to the House for such further action as it. deems fit. 11th March, 1938.
