ORDER OF REFERENCE.

Extract from the Journals of the House of Represenlul Friday, thk (Jtb Day of October, 1933. Ordered, " That a .Select Committee be appointed, eonaisting of ten members, to examine into and report upon such questions rclatin t.> ibe public aooounts as may be referred to it by the House or the Government, and also into all matters relating to the finances of the Dominion which the Government may refer to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Broadfoot, .Mr. Connolly, Mr. Endean, Mr. Holyoake, Mr. Howard, Mrs. McCombs, Mr. J. A. Nash, .Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Wilkinson, and the mover."—(Right Hon. Mr. Coates.)

REPORTS.

Special Report. I have the honour to report thai .it the final meeting of the Public Accounts Committee the following resolution was agreed to, namely : " That this Committee place on record its appreciation of the excellent service rendered by Mr. L. C. Dawe as Committee Clerk in making all the necessary arrangements to facilitate the work of the Committee, and that this resolution be recorded in the minutes of the Committee .and reported to the House." 21st December, 1933.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee, consisting of ten members, has during the session held eleven meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of seven members. The estimates of expenditure for the financial year ending 31st March, 1934, were referred to the Committee by the Minister of Finance, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates. In all, sixty-eight officers of the Departments State were summoned before and examined by the Committee on the various classes of estimates. Eighteen resolutions were agreed to by the Committee, copies of which were forwarded to the Minister of Finance for consideration. Paper No. 163 (Public Accounts for Financial Year ended 31st March, 1933), together with the report of the Controller and Auditor-General thereon, was referred to the Committee for consideration and report. Evidence, which was taken down, was heard from officers of the Departments of State, and the conclusions arrived at by the Committee were reported to the House. 21st December, 1933. J. A.
