Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill. The Committee has the honour to report that considerable evidence has been tendered in respect to the Bill, especially the clauses dealing with increased medical and surgical allowance, and full wagespayment during the period of incapacity ; also other phases arising out of the worker's compensation insurance. Wide differences of opinion were expressed as to the charges which would be entailed upon industry if the Bill was passed. The Committee is of the opinion, and respectfully recommends, that the Government should examine the whole matter, including the report from Ontario, and submit a report to Parliament next session. For the above reasons the Committee recommends that the Bill be not allowed to proceed. 3rd October, 1928.
Petition of R. M. Bent and 42 Others. Praying to be allowed to sell aerated waters and ice-cream on Sundays. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. 4th October, 1928.
Petition of E. M. Edwards and 47 Others. Praying for the amendment of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, to permit sale of tobacco and cigarettes. I have the honour to report that the Committee has heard considerable evidence regarding this petition, and begs to respectfully recommend that the Government should take steps to so amend the law as to permit of the sale of tobacco and cigarettes subject to the stock being kept in locked receptacles during closing-hours, but with considerably increased penalties for any sales made during closing-time. 4th October, 1928.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Committee desires to place on record their cordial appreciation of the valuable services- rendered to the Committee over a period of many years by their colleagues, Mr. Horn and Mr. McLennan, and to convey to them all good wishes for the future. 4th October, 1928.
Special Report. The Labour Bills Committee desires to record its appreciation of the careful and methodical manner in which the Clerk, Mr. Llewellyn Meredith, has carried out his duties during the session ; it also desires that this resolution shall be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and reported to the House. 4th October, 1928.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has during the session held seven meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of six members. Two Bills and two petitions were referred to the Committee, all of which have been reported upon to the House. 4th October, 1928. John P. Luke, Chairman.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the members of the Labour Bills Committee desire to record their great appreciation of the ability, tact, and unfailing courtesy manifested in the conduct of the business of the Committee by its Chairman, Sir John Luke, Kt., C.M.G. ; and the members of the Committee further desire that this resolution be reported to the House. sth October, 1928.
