NATIVE LAND AMENDMENT AND NATIVE LAND CLAIMS ADJUSTMENT ACT, 1920. REPORT AND RECOMMENDATION ON PETITION NO. 329 OF 1919, OF KAHUTAIKI NGAMATE, RELATIVE TO THE SUCCESSORS TO MARIU NGAMATE (DECEASED).

Presented to Parliament in pursuance of Section 32 of the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Act, 1920.

Native Department, Wellington, Bth August, 1923. Petition No. 329 of 1919 — Mariu Ngamate (deceased). Enclosed is report of Native Land Court herein, from which it will bo seen the petitioner has taken no steps to prosecute the matter. The records show that in the only cases where it can be found that succession orders were granted to the deceased interests, Kahutaiki Meihana (who is assumed to be the same as Kahutaiki Ngamate) and her brother and sisters were expressly included, to the exclusion of other relatives. Pursuant to section 32 of the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Act, 1920, I recommend that no legislation, is necessary and that no further action be taken. In the Native Land Court of New Zealand, Aotea District. —In the matter of the Petition No. 329 of 1919, of Kahutaiki Ngamate, praying for inclusion among the successors to Mariu Ngamate (deceased), referred to the Court under the provisions of section 32 of the above-mentioned Act. At a sitting of the Court held at Hawera on the 4th day of July, 1923, the Court made inquiry into the above matter, and reports as follows : — 1. On at least five occasions the matter has been duly advertised in the Gazette and Kahili for hearing at Hawera or New Plymouth, but no one has come forward to give evidence, nor has the Court received any communications from any parties interested. 2. The Court accordingly recommends that no further action be taken in the matter. As witness the hand of the Judge and the seal of the Court. The Chief Judge, Native Land Court. P. 0. V.
