ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from Ike Journals of the House of Representatives. Friday, the 14th Day of July, 1922. Ordered, " That Standing Order No. 219 be suspended, and that a Goldfields and Mines Committee bo appointed, consisting of twelve members, to whom shall be referred all matters relating to mining, and all Bills relating to mines ; with power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Bollard, Mr. J. McC. Diokson, Mr. Edie, Mr. A. Hamilton, Mr. Holland, Mr. Horn, Mr. Hudson, Mr. Poland, Mr. Reed, Mr. T. W. Rhodes, Mr. Seddon, and the mover." —(Hon. Mr. Anderson.) EEPOETB. No. 162. —Petition of Edwin John Renshaw, of Thames, and 2 Others. Praying that a certain disability under the goldfields Acts may be removed from the freehold title of certain land at Karaka North No. 1 Block, Thames. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for further inquiry. 26th September, 1922.

Coal-mines Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee, to which was referred the Coal-mines Amendment Bill, has the honour to report that, having carefully considered the same, it recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown on the copy attached hereto. 26th September, 1922.

Paper 269 (Amended Regulations under the Mining Act, 1908). W The Goldfields and Mines Committee has the honour to report that, having given careful consideration to the above regulations, referred to it by your honourable House, it has not any amendments to suggest. The Committee therefore recommends that the said regulations be approved. 13th October, 1922. ft

No. 376. —Petition of Elizabeth B. Cameron, of Thames. Praying for a compassionate allowance equal to a miner's widow's pension, and on the same conditions. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 17th October, 1922.

Mining Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee, to which was referred the Mining Amendment Bill, has the honour to report that, having carefully considered the same, it recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with, the amendments shown on the copy attached hereto. 19th October, 1922.

Stone - quarries Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee, to which was referred the Stone-quarries Amendment Bill, has the honour to report that, having carefully considered the same, it recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendment shown on the copy attached hereto. 19th October, 1922.

No. 138. —Petition of Richard Ross, of Thames, and 24 Others. Praying for compensation for losses sustained through the restriction on the sale of gold in the open market during the war period. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 28th October, 1922.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Goldfields and Mines Committee, consisting of twelve members, has held seven meetings during the session. The average attendance of members at each meeting was nine. Three Bills —namely, the Coal-mines Amendment, the Mining Amendment, and the Stonequarries Amendment—were considered by the Committee, evidence taken, and the Bills reported to the House. Three petitions and one parliamentary paper (No. 269) were also reported to the House. 28th October, 1922.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Goldfields and Mines Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the ability and tact displayed by the Chairman, Mr. T. W. Rhodes, in the conduct of the business of the Committee during the session ; and further desires that this resolution shall be recorded on the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. 28th October, 1922.
