ORDER OF REFERENCE. Extract from the Journals of the House of Representatives, Monday, the 10th Day of July, 1910. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters relating to school-teachers, education and public instruction generally, public-school training of teachers, higher education, technical education, manual instruction, and such other matters affecting education as may be referred to it; to have power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderson, Mr. Guthrie, Mr. Isitt, Mr. Malcolm, Mr. Poland, Mr. Sidey, Mr. Statham, Mr. Thomson, Mr. Wright, and the mover."-—(Hon. Mr. Hanan.)

EBPOETB. No. 203.--Petition of N. Atkinson unci 1,378 Others, of Wellington. PRATING that the Imperial system of d ress-cutting may be used in the technical and high schools of the Dominion. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion the evidence given demonstrates that charts are not educative, but rather of utilitarian value, and, as charts are not excluded from secondary and technical schools in Victoria, their use should be made optional in the technical and secondary schools of the Dominion. The Committee strongly recommends that Miss Roberts should be given an opportunity of proving her confidence in her own scheme and its value b)' being placed in charge of a class for a period of six months. sth August, 1916..

No. 229.—Petition of Elizabeth B. Miller, of Auckland. PRATING for a compassionate allowance for services rendered as instructress and lecturer in cookery and domestic economy in the schools of the Dominion. I am directed to report that the Committee lias no recommendation to make on this petition. sth August, 1916.
No. 245. —Petition of .1. A. Thomson and 78 Others, of Wellington. Phaying for assistance to obtain additional playground at the Terrace School, Wellington. 1 am directed to report that, having regard to the pressing need for additional playground accommodation and the requirements in various parts of New Zealand for new -sites for schools, the Committee recommends that the Uovernment request the Minister of Education to prepare a scheme to deal with this subject in a comprehensive manner. sth August, 1916.
Special Report, I have the honour to report that at the meeting of the Education Committee held on Wednesday, the 2nd August, the following resolution was unanimously agreed to : " The Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the attentive and courteous manner in which its Chairman (J. C. Thomson, Esq.) has conducted the business of the Committee, and that this resolution be recorded in the minutes and be reported to the House." sth August, 1916.
