ORDERS OP REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 7th Day of July, 1910. Ordered, " That a Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to whom shall be referred Bills more particularly referring to labour; three to be a quorum: the Committee to consist of Mr. Arnold, Mr. Bollard, Mr. Fraser, Mr. Glover, Mr. Hardy, Mr. Luke, Mr. McLaren, Mr. Poole, Right Hon. Sir J. G. Ward, and the mover."—(Hon. Mr. Millar.) Thursday, the 11th Day of August, 1910. Inspection op Machineby Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendment as shown on the copy attached hereto. 20th October 1910. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has taken evidence thereon and carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy attached hereto. (Vide also 1.-9c.) J F Arnold, Chairman. 2nd November, 1910. No. 508. —Petition of Louis Lock and 53 Others. Petitioners pray that provision be made for laundrymen to work at their trade at least fifty-four hours during the week, and to allow washing to be received up to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 p.m. on other tiays , and also that the wages and overtime book be kept in the Chinese language. I am directed to report that, as the subject-matter of this petition is dealt with in the Factories Act Amendment Bill, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2nd November, 1910. Shops and Offices Act Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has taken evidence thereon and carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy attached hereto. No. 190.—Petition of J Hogan and 18 Others, of Auckland. Petitionees pray that a Eoyal Commission be set up, to sit in Auckland, to take evidence, which would, in the petitioners' opinion, completely justify the status, name, and honour of the waterside workers in the Dominion. I am directed to report that, in the opinion of the Committee, this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. J F Arnold, Chairman. 9th November 1910.

Tramways Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has taken voluminous evidence thereon and has carefully considered the same, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy attached hereto. The Committee sat altogether on eighteen days (holding twenty-four meetings) and examined thirty-six witnesses during the sixty hours it sat. (Vide also 1.-9 a.) 9th November, 1910. J F Arnold, Chairman. Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it recommends that the Bill be held over until next session. 17th November 1910. J. F. Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill. The Labour Bills Committee, to whom was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it recommends that the Bill be held over until next session. 17th November, 1910. J F Arnold, Chairman.

Final Beport. I am directed to report that the Labour Bills Committee has had six Bills referred to it this session Of this number evidence has been taken on three, four have been deliberated on and reported to the House, while two have been held over until next session. The Committee also had two petitions referred to it, both of which have been reported on to the House. The Committee has had, in all, this session thirty-three meetings, and presented nine reports to the House. Also, that the Committee passed the following resolutions at the final meeting : — (1.) That this Committee pass a vote of thanks to the Chairman (Mr Arnold), and express their appreciation of his services as Chairman of the Committee and that a copy of this resolution be recorded in the minutes. (2.) That this Committee expresses its appreciation of the services rendered by the secretary to the Committee (Mr Stevens), and acknowledges the care and assiduity shown by him in the execution of his duties , and that a copy of this resolution be recorded in the minutes.
