The Registrar, Victoria College Council, to the Rt. Hon. the Minister of Education. Sir,— Victoria College, Wellington, 16th May, 1904. I have the honour, in pursuance of " The Victoria College Act, 1897," to forward the following report from the Council on the working of the Victoria College for the year ended the 31st December, 1903 :— Classes were held in the following subjects : English language and literature, Latin, Greek, French, German, mental science, jurisprudence and constitutional history, law, political economy and history, mathematics, mechanics, chemistry, physics, and geology. The number of students attending classes was 191, and there were fifty-nine exempted students attached to the College. Of these, eighty kept terms. At the examination for the Queen's Scholarships in December last there were 99 candidates from the following education districts, viz. : Wellington, 76 ; Hawke's Bay, 10; Taranaki, 4 ; Wanganui, 5; Westland, 4. The six scholarships were awarded to scholars from the following schools : Havelock North, Woodstock, Mount Cook Boys' School (Wellington), Clyde Quay School (Wellington), and New Plymouth High School. Of the present holders of Queen's Scholarships, eight are attending the Victoria College and nineteen are at secondary schools.
