The Chairman of the Board of Governors to the Minister op Education. Sir,— Auckland University College, 30th June, 1903. In pursuance of section 25 of " The Auckland University College Act, 1882," the Council has the honour to make the following report:— 1. The number of persons who attended lectures in this College in 1902 was 237 : Graduates 15 (males, 12; females, 3) ; undergraduates, 99 (males, 69 ; females, 30); and non-matriculated students, 123 (males, 42; females, 81). There were 14 students exempted from attendance at lectures ;of these, however, 9 attended lectures more or less. The total number of students was thus 242. 2. Council.—Mr. Gerald Loftus Peacocke was reappointed a member of the Council by His Excellency the Governor in Council. The Most Eeverend Bishop Cowie was re-elected a member of the Council by members of the General Assembly resident in the Provincial District of Auckland. He resigned, however, on the 20th June, 1902, and Mr. William Coleman, Barrister-at-law was elected to fill his place ; and Mr. Tom. Umfrey Wells, 8.A., was re-elected by the graduates of the University of New Zealand on the roll—all to hold office until the 21st May, 1905. 3. Professors and Lecturers.—Mr. Maxwell Walker, M.A., was appointed Lecturer on Modern Languages. The other members of the staff remain as before. 4. Income and Expenditure.— Income for 1902, £4,388 19s. Id.; expenditure, £4 293 lis 6d ■ surplus, £95 7s. 7d. 5. Endoivments.—The income from endowments in 1902 was £338 13s. 7d., and the expenditure upon them was £2 17s. 7d. : net revenue, £335 16s. 6. Degrees and Honours.—Masters of Arts, 9; Honours in Arts, 8; Senior Scholarships, 2; Honours in Science, 1 ; LL.B., first examination, 1; LL.B., second examination, 2 ; LL B third examination, 1; B.Sc, first section, 3; B.Sc, final, 3; 8.A., first section, 7; 8.A., final, 6. Seven students of the College held University Junior Scholarships during the year.

7. Banfurly Medals. —The Countess of Eanfurly donated two handsome silver medals to be competed for at the annual examination of students of the School of Music, which were awarded as follows: Senior division, Miss Florence B. Williams ; junior division, Miss Edith E. Clarke. 8. Sinclair Scholarship. —The Sinclair Scholarship, tenable for three years, of the value of £70 per annum, was awarded to Miss Anne F. Ironside. 9.
