1899. NEW ZEALAND.

EDUCATION: AUCKLAND, CHRISTCHURCH, AND DUNEDIN UNIVERSITY COLLEGES. PARTICULARS AS REGARDS STUDENTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 12th July, 1899. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing the number of students attending the University Colleges of Auckland, Christohuroh, and Dunedin during the three years ended 31st November, 1898; also the number of students who were residents of Auckland, Ohristchurch, and Dunedin, or suburbs; also the number of scholarships held by students attending the University Colleges, and number of scholarships held by those who were resident in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin, or suburbs." —(Mr. McLean.)

N.B.—The scholarships and exhibitions range in value from £5 for one year to £60 for three years. It may be stated generally that holders of scholarships and exhibitions are matriculated students. 28th September, 1899. . Gboege Hogben.
