INCOME-TAX: PARTICULARS OF VARIOUS AMOUNTS COLLECTED DURING 1898-99.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 35th July, 1899. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing the total amount of income-tax paid during the last financial year,—(l) In respect of the income of companies chargeable at Is. in the pound ; (2) in respect of the income of private persons, (a) chargeable at 6d. in the pound, and (6) ohargeable at Is. in the pound. Said return further to show the amount that would be yielded by the tax if levied on the following scale, viz. : (A) As to oompanies, Is. in the pound up to £1,000, and Is. 6d. in the pound on all income above £1,000; (B) as to private persons, 6d. in the pound up to £500, Is. in the pound on income over £500 and up to £1,000, and Is. 6d. in the pound on all income over £1,000, without altering the amount of exemption at present provided by law.—(Hon.
