RETAINING THE TITLE OF "HONOURABLE" (DESPATCH FROM THE RIGHT HON. THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES TO THE GOVERNOR RELATIVE TO).

Glasgow, Governor. Message No. The Governor transmits to the House of Eepresentatives copy of a despatch, dated 23rd June, 1894, from Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, intimating that the Queen has been pleased to approve of Sir Francis Dillon Bell, Sir George Maurice O'Eorke, and William Jukes Steward, Esquire, retaining the title of " Honourable." Government House, Wellington, 24th August, 1894.

My Loed, — Downing Street, 23rd June, 1894. I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Lordship's despatch, No. 16, of the 12th of May, and to inform you in reply that the Queen has been pleased to approve of Sir Francis Dillon Bell, K.C.M.G., C.8.; Sir George Maurice O'Eorke, Knight; and Mr. William Jukes Steward, retaining the title of " Honourable" on quitting office after over three years' service as Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Colony of New Zealand, and a notification to that effect will be inserted in the London Gazette. I have, &c, Governor the Right Hon. the Earl of Glasgow, G.C.M.G., &c. Ripon.
