The Railway Commissioners to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works. In re Petition of W. C. Daldy and Others for a Trial of the Stage-System on New Zealand Railways. Sir, — Government Buildings, 28th January, 1891. In pursuance of our report, dated 12th September, 1890, and published in Parliamentary Paper D.-2a, 1890, we have the honour to inform you that a letter, of which a copy is attached, was duly despatched to the leading petitioner, requesting that some particulars might be furnished to the department as to the objects sought; but so far we have been unable to elicit any information. The letter has neither been acknowledged nor replied to. We have, &c, James McKerrow, J. P. Maxwell, W. M. Hannay, New Zealand Railway Commissioners. The Hon. the Minister for Public Works.
[R. 90/3009—N0. 5831.] Sir,— 23rd October, 1890. _ A petition signed by yourself and other residents of Auckland, together with similar petitions from different localities, praying for the substitution of a stage-system for the present system of railway management, having been referred by the Government to the Railway Commissioners, I am directed by them to forward a copy of a letter which they addressed to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works on the 12th September last, bearing on the subject of stage-systems. In pursuance of that memorandum I am directed to ask that you or any other of the petitioners who are interested in the matter will kindly furnish the Commissioners with any further information you or they may have to offer.
