Meturn to an Order of the Mouse of Representatives, dated 19th August, 1881. " That there be laid upon the table a return Bliowing the endowments in land or grants in money made to the various Harbour Boards in the colony, and specifying which of such endowments and grants were made by Provincial Governments and which by the General Government, and the estimated value of the endowments of land at the time they "were made and at the present time."— {Mr. Levin.)

Vested in the Board by section 32 of " The Lyttelton Harbour Board Act, 1876." The Secretary of the Board states that he is unable to arrive at the value of these wharves and jetties. The cost of rebuilding them, based on engineer's estimate, and the cast of recent works carried out by the Board, exclusive of breakwater contract, would be approximately £55,000.

The water-area in the description within the breakwaters is 109 acres. The only land which the Board have capable of being leased is land reclaimed by them from the harbour between the Gladstone Pier and the Screw Pile Jetty, and between the Graving Dock and Peacock's Wharf. Estimated value not given. No grants in money made to the Board. Portion of the North Otago Loan. £1,800 of this remains as a fixed deposit. Made under Acts of 1874 and 1876. Bent received for year 1876-77 wag £591 4s. 9a., ana for 1880-81 £380 9s., the amount varying annually according to the number of stock depastured. 1,219 acres, worth £2 per acre, are under lease at an annual rental of £94 14s.; the remaining 1,781 acres are of no value, being hills of sand ana lagoons. This enaowment has been almost destroyed by rabbits. Granted for Pilot and Harbourmaster's salary since July, 1880. The foreshore between high- and low-water mark in Thames Harbour. Granted under " The Thames Harbour Board Act, 1876." Value unknown. Site on which lighthouse is erected. The foreshore from Patiti Point to stream from Waimataitai Lagoon. Value nominal. Voted by Provincial Government out of sales of land, but paid over by General Government. Beceived from Timaru and Gladstone Boara of Works. The only endowments of this Boara are the foreshores of the Waimakariri within the Borough of Kaiapoi. Value not statea.
