WEST COAST NATIVE AFFAIRS (FURTHER PAPER RESPECTING). [In continuation of A.—8.]

• ■ • • His Excellency the Governor to Ministers. Memoeandum for Ministebs. The Governor desires to point out, that the twelfth paragraph of his Despatch* No. 11, of the 26th February, 1881, as printed for submission to Parliament, repeats a clerical error contained in the original Despatch, and in the copy from which it was printed. This error was corrected in the original as soon as discovered, and should also be corrected in the copy laid before Parliament. The first and second lines of that paragraph should run thus : — " Between 1872 and 1875, 185,000 acres of land between the Waingongoro " and Waitotara were purchased from the Natives, and money also paid them for the " extinction of rights to the north of the Waingongoro —an apparent recognition " of their title." The correction is of importance, as the omission of the words in question renders the sentence obscure and almost meaningless : as is correctly pointed out by Mr. Hall, in his memorandum of the 15th June.
