PENSION TO CHIEF JUDGE FENTON (OFFICIAL REPORT ON).

Official Repoet upon the case of Mr. Fenton, Chief Judge, Native Land Court, about to retire under the Civil Service Superannuatioa Acts, 1858, &c. Mb. Fenton was appointed to the Public Service by G-overnor Sir George G-rey, 2nd June, 1853, in the Registry of Deeds, Auckland. In 1854, January, he was appointed Resident Magistrate and Collector of Customs at Kaipara. In 1855 he was made Native Secretary, and in 1856 Resident Magistrate at Waikato, and Civil Commissioner. In 1858 he became Assistant Law Officer of the Crown, which office he retained until the close of 1864, when he was appointed to the office of Chief Judge of the Compensation Court under " The New Zealand Settlements Act, 1863," and Chief Judge of the Native Land Court. In 1876 he was made District Judge of Auckland, and for a time discharged the duties of Resident Magistrate there. He now holds the office of Chief Judge, Native Land Court and Deputy District Judge. His salary during the last three years has been £1,000 per annum. Having attained the age of fifty-seven years he is entitled to retire from the Public Service, and has made application accordingly The Colonial Secretary has supplied the requisite certificate of good behaviour; and the Audit Office has calculated the pension, dating the retirement on the 3rd November next, on which day Mr. Fenton proposes to retire, at £630 195., being for twenty-eight complete years, after deducting leaves of absence. £ 8. a.
