THE APPOINTMENT OF MR. JOHN WHITE IN THE NATIVE DEPARTMENT (PAPERS RELATING TO).

Laid upon the Table by the Hon. Mr. Bryce with the leave of the House. No. 1. The Undee Seceetaey, Native Department, to Mr. John White. (Telegram No. 87.) Government Buildings, 9th April, 1879. The Hon. the Native Minister directs me to inform you that the Government agree to employ you at a salary of £450 a year, upon the following conditions : — 1. That the salary commence from the Ist March, 1879. 2. That it be paid now from contingencies, but be afterwards placed on the estimates. 3. That the manuscripts which you have to translate become the property of the Government. 4. That, in addition to the work of translating the manuscripts, you will also be available for any other ordinary work which may be required to be done. 5.
