1879. NEW ZEALAND.
RESERVATION OF LAND FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES (PAPERS RELATIVE TO).
Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly, in pursuance of "The Education Reserves Act, 1877;" "The New Zealand University Act, 1874;" "The University Endowment Act, 1868;" "The Wellington College Acts Amendment Act, 1878;" and "The Land Act, 1877." [Gazette, 1879, page 230.] Lands set apart as Endowments for Primary Education. (1.5.) Normanbt, Governor. A Proclamation. Whereas by " The Education Eeserves Act, 1877," it is, amongst other things, enacted that, in order to provide an endowment for primary education in the North Island, at least five per centum of the waste lands in each district therein open for sale on the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, and a like per centum out of all laud over which the Native title may thereafter be extinguished in each such district, and which should from time to time be acquired or purchased by or on behalf of the Crown, should be reserved and set apart as an endowment for the maintenance of primary education within the education district in which the land is situated: Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said recited Act, and of every other power and authority me thereunto enabling, do hereby reserve and set apart the several blocks or parcels of land described in the Schedule hereto as endowments for the maintenance of primary education within the education districts in which such blocks or parcels of land are respectively situated. SCHEDULE. Education District op Wellington. All that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of AVellington, being Section numbered 28 of Block IX. of the Wairoa Survey District, containing by admeasurement 215 acres 1 rood and 37 perches, more or less. Bounded towards the North by part of Block IV., 2969 links ; towards the East by Section 27 of Block IX., 7715 links ; towards the South by a public road, 1567 and 1513 links ; and towards the West by Section 29 of Block IX., 7408 links. Education District of Auckland. All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing by admeasurement 3,147 acres, more or less, situated in the AVairoa Confiscated Block, in the Taramarama Survey District, being Allotment No. 28. Bounded towards the North by Lot No. 22 of No. 21, the crossing of a road, and Lot No. 21 aforesaid, 25622 links ; towards the East by Lot No. 20, the crossing of a road, and Lot No. 20 aforesaid, 10875 links ; towards the South by Lots Nos. 16 and 15, and Lots 104, 103, and 102 of the AVairoa Military Settlement, and a road, 29765 links; and towards the West by tho crossing of a road, Lot No. 27, the crossing of a road, and Lot No. 27 aforesaid, 12275 links : save and excepting two roads each 100 links wide which intersect the area hereby granted; be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, being Lot 184, Parish of Apata, Aongatete Survey District, containing by admeasurement 6 acres, more or less. Bounded towards tho North-east by a road, 541 links ; towards the South-east by Lot 183, 1100 links ; towards the Southwest by Lot ISS, 540 links ; and towards the North-west by a road, 1100 links. All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, beingJLots 217 and 218, situate in the Parish of Apata, Aongatete Survey District, containing by admeasurement 343 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the North by Lot 210 and a road, 4707 links ; towards the East by a road, 7393 links ; towards the South by Lot 219 and a road, 8001 links ; and tow rards the West by a road, 5200 links. Education District op Haw_ce's Bat. All that parcel of land situate in the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay, containing by admeasurement two thousand five hundred and nine (2,509) acres, more or less, being Section No. 1, in the Waitara Block, Pohui Survey District. Bounded towards the North-west by the Mohaka Eiver; towards the East by Section No. 3, Maungaharuru Survey District, twenty-seven thousand four hundred and twenty-nine (27429) links; towards the South-west by Sections Nos. 4 and 3, Pohui Survey District, twelve thousand five hundred and ninety-eight (12598) links; towards the South-East by Section No. 3, Pohui Survey District, seven hundred and eighty (780) links; and again towards

the South-west by a public road eight hundred and twenty-seven (827) links, two hundred and thirtynine (239) links, three hundred and seventy-five (375) links, seven hundred and two (702) links, four hundred and fifty-nine (459) links, one hundred and thirty-eight (138) links, four hundred and two (402) links, three hundred and ninety (390) links, four hundred and eight (408) links, one hundred and fifty-six (156) links, and one hundred (100) links, and by Section No. 2, Pohui Survey District, five thousand three hundred and sixty (5360) links ; exclusive of a reserve for gravel, at the northeastern corner of this section, containing twenty-one (21) acres, and of a public road, ono hundred (100) links wide, leading from the Taupo Road towards Wairoa, passing through this section: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the Survey Office, Napier. Given under the hand of His Excellency tho Most Honorable George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County of Tork, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom ; and Baron Mulgrave of New Eoss, in the County of AVexford, in the Peerage of Ireland ; a Member of Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and ViceAdmiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this fifteenth day of February, in the year of our Lord ono thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine. [Gazette, 1879, page 443.] Lands set apart as Endowments for Secondary Education. (1.5.) James Prenderoast, Administrator of the Government. A Proclamation. Whereas by " The Education Eeserves Act, 1877," it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may from time to time, by Proclamation, provisionally reserve any waste lands of the Crown, or any lands taken under the New Zealand Settlements Act, as endowments for primary and for secondary education within the provincial district in which such lands are : Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, iv exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the nineteenth section of the said recited Act, and of every other power and authority me thereunto enabling, do hereby reserve and set apart the several parcels of land described in the Schedule hereto as endowments for the maintenance of secondary education within the provincial district in which such parcels of land are situated.
SCHEDULE. All those parcels of land in the Provincial District of Taranaki, containing by admeasurement one thousand two hundred and ten (1,210) acres one (1) rood and thirty-two (32) perches, aird being Sections numbers 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, and 112, of Block 11., Ngaire Survey District. Given under the hand of His Excellency James Prendergast, Esquire, Administrator of the Government in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House at Wellington, this twenty-second day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine. [Gazette, 1879, page 465.] Land reserved under " The University Endowment Act, 1868." (1.5.) Hercules Eobinson, Administrator of the Government. A Proclamation. Whereas by " The New Zealarrd University Act, 1874," it is, amongst other things, enacted that the block of land in the Province of Taranaki, consisting of ten thousand acres, taken under the New Zealand Settlements Act, and referred to in the Schedule to "The University Endowment Act, 1868," shall be defined by Proclamation by the Governor as soon as conveniently may be after the passing of " The New Zealand University Act, 1874," aforesaid, and shall thereafter be deemed to have been reserved under the said " University Endowment Act, IS6B :" Now, therefore, I, Sir Hercules George Eobert Eobinson,. the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority contained in the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and of every other power and authority in that behalf enabling me, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land defined in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby deemed to have been reserved under the provisions of " The University Endowment Act, 1868," aforesaid. SCHEDULE. All that parcel of land containing by admeasurement ten thousand (10,000) acres, more or less, situate in the Carlyle and Opaku Survey District. Bounded towards the North by the Nukuhau Stream and a road line, twenty-two thousand and fifty (22050) links ; towards the East by a road line, seventy-five thousand one hundred and fifty (75150) links; towards the South by Section numbered four hundred and forty-hour (444), Okotuku Block, and waste land, thirty-one thousand and eighty (31080) links; and towards the AVest by waste land, thirty-two thousand six hundred (32600) links, and the AVhenuakura Eiver: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.

WnEREAS by " The Wellington College Acts Amendment Act, 1878," section eight, it is enacted that, out of the waste lands of the Crown within the Education District of Wellington which have been or may be from time to time set apart for the purposes of secondary education, the Governor may set apart an area the capital value whereof shall not exceed three thousand pounds : Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robinson, Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said recited Act, and of every other power and authority me thereunto enabling, do hereby reserve and set apart the several parcels of land described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of secondary education within the Education District of Wellington.
SCHEDULE. All those parcels of land containing 2,973 acres 3 roods and 12 perches, more or less, situate within the Provincial District of AVellington, and being Sections Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Ba, 9, 10, and 11, of Block II.; Sections Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 26, Block VI.; Sections Nos. 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 28, 29, Block XL ; and Section No. 44, Block VII., Mangaone Survey District. [Gazette, 1878, page 1348.] Land temporarily reserved in the Provincial District of Canterbury. Normanbt, Governor. Whereas by the one hundred and forty-fourth section of "The Land Act, 1877," it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned : Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Provincial District of Canterbury described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purpose in the said Schedule specified.
SCHEDULE. All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement seventyfive (75) acres, more or less, being section numbered two thousand two hundred and seventy-eight (2278) (in red). Bounded towards the North by a road line for a distance of eighteen (18) chains seventy-five (75) links ; towards the AVest by Crown lands for a distance of forty (40) chains ; towards the South by Crown lands for a distance of eighteen (18) chains seventy-five links ; and towards the East by Crown lands for a distance of forty (40) chains : as the same is delineated on the plans deposited in the Provincial District Survey Office, Christchurch. As an endowment for primary education. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-eighth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight. Eobert Stout. All that piece or parcel or land being Section No. 5, Block X., Mangawhero Survey District, and situate in the Provincial District of Wellington, containing 675 acres, more or less. For the purposes of education. All that piece or parcel of land being section No. 6, Block X., Mangawhero Survey District, and situate in the Provincial District of Wellington, containing 674 acres 1 rood, more or less. Bounded on the North by Section No. 5, Block X., of the said survey district; on the South by Section No. 7, Block X., of the said survey district; on the East by the Wangaehu River ; and on the AVest by the Parateike Block. For the purposes of education. All that piece or parcel of land being Section No. 7, Block X., Mangawhero Survey District, and situate in the Provincial District of AVellington, containing 618 acres, more or less. Bounded on the North by Section No. 6, Block X., of the said survey district; on the South by Section No. 8, Block X., of the said survey district; on the East by the Wangaehu River; and on the West by the Parateike Block. For the purposes of education. All that piece or parcel of land being Section No. 10, Block XIV., Mangawhero Survey District, and situate in the Provincial District of AVellington, containing 387 acres 2 roods, more or less. Bounded on the North by section No. 9, Block XIV., of the said survey district; on the East by Native land; on the South by the Wangaehu River ; and on the AVest by the Mangawhero Block.
