The nearness of this river to the sea., and the present advanced stage of the fry, render the successful result of the salmon experiment much more favourable than at any earlier stage, and in fact, place it within the list of reasonable certainties. I have the honor to advise, also, that the vote of last year to this Society for the introduction of salmon under the direction of His Honor the Superintendent of Otago was not expended, owing to the lateness of the season, and to request the renewal thereof for a shipment of ova from Britain during the present year. I have, &c, Thomas Perkins, for the Hon. Sec. to Acclimatization Society. The Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

No. 6. The Under Secretary to Mr. Perkins. Sir; — Colonial Secretary's Office, "Wellington, 27th June, 1874. I have the honor, by direction of Dr. Pollen, to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 13th inst., reporting the probable success of the salmon ova experiment of 1873. With regard to your suggestion, that the vote of last year, which, owing to the lateness of the season, was not expended, should be renewed this Session, for the purpose of obtaining another shipment of ova from Britain, I am to inform you that the Superintendent of Otago has been in communication with the Government upon the subject, and it has been determined to propose to the House of Representatives an appropriation of five hundred pounds, which, if voted, will be contributed on the same terms as agreed upon last year. I have, &c, G. S. Cooper, T. Perkins, Esq., Acclimatization Society, Invercargill. Under Secretary. By Authority: Gkorud Didsbuby, Government Printer, Wellington.—lB74. Trice 3d.]
