(Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated the 6th day of July, 18C0.J That there be laid upon the Table of tliis House—" A Return showing the effective state of the Colonial Forces, at the latest date to which the same has bcea made up ; distinguishing the Corns awaiting settlement upon land." RETURN showing the present effective state of the COLONIAL FORCES; distinguishing the Corps which are to receive land.

(«) Head Quarters of Staff of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Waikato Regiments. {b) Half this Regiment to be located at Tauranpa, and half at Opotiki; all on pay at present. (r-j 1,198 all ranks off pay and on their land, of whom 1,462 draw rations ; 99 at present are employed in the Commissariat Transport Corps and paid by Imperial Government; the remainder of the men on pay will be located as soon as land is provided. * (d) These men are at present stationed at White Cliffs and Mataitawa, but'will shortly be located at Patea. (<■■) All on pay ; the last detachments of these men are now on their way from Opotiki to Patea. if) Xow on their way to PuU-a. (.'/) This is one of the Companies of Taranaki Militia who were promised land north of Waitara, bnt as it was subsequently found that the claims of the Friendly Natives would only admit of one Company being located there, the 2nd Company are to have land at Patea • not on pay. ■ (h) This is a Company of Tnranaki Volunteers for whom there is no land at Taranaki; not on pay. (>) Land for these men is to be provided by the Provincial Government of Hawke's Bay. (./) S»» being organised by Major McDonnell; there are 92 all ranks to receive land in the Patea District for services at Onotiki and West Coast Campaign. r (k) In charge of Native Military Settlers, who will be off pay shortly and receive their land at Urunui, north of Waitara. (I) The Auckland and Napier Defence Force are entitled to land; no promise baa been made to the men of the Wellington Force. James Holt, Under Secretary.
