PHILATELIC SOCIETY

The sixth annual birthday party ! of the Waikato Philatelic Society was ' celebrated in the Centreway Teai rooms on Wednesday evening when about 100 members and friends were welcomed by the president, Mr M. C. Gudex. A programme of competitions and ■items was given by the iollowing: Mr and Mrs J. Bolton (piano and drums), i Master John Hepburn (recitations), | Mr B. Primrose (vocal solos), Miss | Bishop (recitations), Mr D. Edsall I (Humour), and Mesdames McGregor and Colin Wilson (vocal duets). Magic by “Chandu” was excellent and mystifying entertainment. A short talk was given by Captain G. Hepburn on some of his experiences while serving in Italy. Super was served and the birthday cake made and donated by Mrs F. E. Whittaker, cut and distributed. Presentations of shoulder sprays were made to Mesdames Whittaker, C. R. Cooke and D. Edsall and a bouquet to Mrs M. C. Gudex. The Pirn Cup awarded annually for a stamp display competition was presented to the 1945 winner, Mr M. C. Gudex, and certificates for winning various classes in the competition were presented to Messrs F. Tonar, D. Edsall, C. R. Cooke and Captain Bishop. ’
