Winner trained by C. Walker, Takanini. COMMENT ON RUNNING Brookby Song gave a line exhibition of Tencing to win the Greenmount Hunters’ Steeplechase and though he was a tired horse at the finish he had sufficient in reserve to hold off the Te Rapa-trained Haereatu, who finished solidly arter being fairly well back in the middle stages. Dunvegan attempted an end-to-end success but he was risking his rences and eventually Could manage only a moderate third. Sir Rajah Tell at the second fence or the double and Eire Boy came to grier at the last Tence when tailing the field. Dunvegan was followed early by Brookby Song, Te Rahu, King Lume, Forest Hill, Sir Rajah, Haereatu and Sporting Nation. Dunvegan, Brookby Song Forest Hill were clear up the hill the first time and they led over the double from Sporting Nation and King Lume. Brookby Song ran past Dunvegan approaching the hill the second time and this pair led down the Incline from Forest Hill with Haereatu moving into the picture. Brookby Song carried on in the closing stages to hold off Haereatu by ten lengths with a similar gap to Dunvegan. Forest Hill was fourth and then followed Sporting Nation, King Lume, Owing and Lord Mark. Close Hurdles Finish There was an exciting finish in the Harris Memorial Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles when Baliyneety finished solidly only to rail by a nose to head Aero King arter the latter had led from end to end. However, the unlurky horse or the race was undoubtedly British Mint who was disappointed in trying to go through on the rails inside Aero King and was badly checked. Brahman Tell at the last fence while the only other horse who railed to finish was Ostentatious, who was pulled up. Aero King showed the way over the first fence to Royce and Brome, Corsac (whose rider had lost an iron at this siege), Bronzo and British Mint. Aero King was making play from Corsac passing the stands with Royce and Brome following and Bronzo, British Mint, Hunting Mac and Brahman next. There was little between Aero King and Corsac along the back but at the hair-mile British Mint had replaced Corsac and he and Aero King turned ror home practically on terms in front of Baliyneety who was coming into the picture. In an exciting finish Aero King got the verdict by a nose over Baliyneety with British Mint three lengths away. Sporting Gold was rourth and Bronzo, Hunting Mac, Royce and Corsac next. Race Divided The first Sylvia Park Handicap was run in divisions, the opening stanza being won nicely by Kipdroon, who finished well in the closing stages to prevail over Old Scot and the improving Te Rapa representative Home Again, who was right at Home under the conditions. Kathshara, one of the leaders to the turn, weakened towards the end. sir Leon was first to break the line but Old Scott took over within the first rurlong and led along the back from Kathshara, Sir Leon, Mallee, Dhaka, Raphael, Klndroon and Home Again. Old Scott was shading Kathshara at the home turn and they levelled up with Kindroon in close attendance and Raphael, Home James and Chaka in that order. Kindroon won well at the end rrom Old Scott with Home Again beating the balance to the judge. Revelling in the conditions Hunting Loch sprang a surprise in the latter division, -finishing solidly to beat Ratal and General I.ytup. Beau Martian, who had attempted to lead all the way. Te Heroine and Battledawn, the leading bunch at the turn, weakened in the straight. Beau Martian showed out early rrom Te Heroine, Battledawn. General’Lvtup. Mr Cute, Bronya and Ratal. There was little change across the ton, Beau Martian leading to the turn from Te Heroine and Rattledawn, wjth Bronya, General Lytup and Hunting- Loeh all handilv placed. Hunting Loch continued his run and he wore down the opposition to win well rrom Batal with General Lytup third. Hippodrome Wins Well Te Rapa horses rought out the finish or the Jellicoe Handicap. Hippodrome-, making light of the heavy conditions, coming right away rrom his field at the end, with the promoted hack Grey Salute, making a fine showing to shade La Fillette Tor second money. The well-supported Regal March had every chance and after hitting the rront early was still in charge at the distance. Neenah was first to break the line and he led along the back from Abbey Fox, Mr Rosa and Cbung Chong. Regal March took over a little further on and the order at the seven was Regal March from Aguilo, Rara Avi9, Hippodrome and La Fillette. Racing to the six Regal March was making play rrom Agullo and Rara Avis, with Hippodrome nicely placed in front or La Fillette, Neenah, Constitution, Bairron and Abbey Fox. Hippodrome moved into third at the hair-mlle and joined Issue with Regal March at the home turn where their closest attendants were Rara Avis, Grey Salute and Neenah. Regal March still had his head in front halfway down but once Hippodrome was asked for an effort he went right away to score by four lengths rrom Gfey Salute, who finished attractively to beat La Fillette. British Talent was rourth and British Mint and Sir Dingle next. Hunt Cup Contest The Pakuranga Hunt Cup provided a spectacular contest, Lapidarian winning comfortably at the end although his success and was assisted by the mistakes of others. Town Survey went a gallant race under his steadier or 12.5, especially as ne had to make up appreciable leewa'v in the concluding stages. Watchette Tefl at the water jump the first time round, Comrie and British Patrol on the top or the hill the first time, while Tideover was going well in front on top of the hill the last time when he came to grier. Lapidarian was taken to the rront at the outset and led early from Waiwalnui, British Patrol, Hunting Chier, Comrle and Watcliette. Over the double the second time round Tideover was leading Lapidarian. and these two were in charge on the nill when the rormer fell to leave Lapidarian clear of New Battle. Lightfair and Town Survey. Town Survey attempted to catcli Lapidarian in the straight but his lask was a Lopeless one and Lapidarian won easily with L'ghtrair third and New Battle rourth in front or Hunting Chier, the onlv other to finish.
