NEW APPOINTMENTS
GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS WELLINGTON, Friday Mr W. C. Smith has been appointed secretary of Marine, the Minister of Marine, the Hon. J. O’Brien, announced today. Mr Smith has been an accountant in the Marine Department since 1937. He joined the public service in 1912 and served in the last war. Mr J. E. Engel has been appointed assistant Public Service Commissioner, the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, announced today. Mr Engel has been inspector in the Commissioner’s office since 1936. He was formerly in the Audit Department rnd is a returned soldier of the last war.
