POST IN WASHINGTON

VICE-ADMIRAL MITSCHER NEW YORK, July 12 The Washington correspondent of the New York Herald-Tribune learns that Vice-Admiral Marc Mitscher, commander of the Third Fleet’s carrier force, is to take a desk job in Washington for the remainder of the war. and will probably be appointed deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Air. Admiral Mitscher said he would take over the new position reluctantly. He wanted to see the war through in an active service role.

The High Court sentenced to death Paul Ferdonnet, the so-called radio traitor of Stuttgart. He wa* arrested while posing as a Belgian in the cookhouse of an Allied officers’ mess in Austria. A crowded court roared with laughter each time Ferdonnet denied guilt. He asserted that he had never broadcast but merely translated scripts for the Germans.
