POLICE PATROL
DETECTING CONVERSION SUCCESSFUL INNOVATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday The police patrol car introduced by the new police commissioner, Mr J. Cummings, two months ago, which keeps in constant touch all night and every night with the various police stations in Wellington, had its first mention in court today. Its suspicions had been aroused early this mornjng by a car with a flat tyre, and when this car stopped by the railway station , the patrol also stopped and asked a few questions. The car was thus recovered before even a complaint had been lodged. It was the third the patrol had recovered before the owner knew of the loss. The case today concerned a soldier, Harold Eugene Matheson, aged 24, who was charged with unlawful conversion. Accused, it was stated, had picked up a male friend and they had driven about the city for some time. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called, and placed in charge of the military authorities, the amount of damage, £7, to be deducted from his military pay.
