DISASTROUS FIRE

COURT OF INQUIRY OPENED PALMERSTON N., Thursday In spite of the fact that the disastrous fire occurred at the showgrounds ordnance depot early on Monday morning, some of the equipment is still smouldering, and members of the Army stationed there have still to play water on the debris. Other men are engaged in shifting the many tons of twisted iron and steel in their endeavours to proceed with salvage operations. A court of inquiry has been convened and is engaged in hearing the evidence of the large number of witnesses. It is expected that the court will be sitting for some days. The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, visited the scene on Tuesday and met the bfficers in charge of the depot;
