PATRIOTIC FUNDS
PROVINCIAL proposals AUCKLAND, Saturday Regarding a statement by the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr H. D. Caro, that the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, had informed the Waikato zone of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council that the Auckland provincial area would be divided into four patriotic districts at an early date, the Mayor of Auckland, Mr J. A. C. Allum, as chairman of the provincial council, said yesterday that he adhered to a previous statement on which Mr Caro had commented. «
The question of subdividing the provincial area had been under consideration for a long time, added Mr Allum, and there had been a difference of opinion as to whether three or four separate areas should be created. The views of the existing zones had been obtained and forwarded to the Minister, who was asked to decide the matter. The statement that no expression of the Minister’s views had been received by the provincial council in Auckland was strictly correct.
Commenting on the statement by Mr Allum, the president of the Waikato Patriotic Zone, Mr Caro, repeated his statement that the Mayor of Auckland knew all about the agreement reached in Wellington. Mr Allum did not reply to the announced decision. He knew also that the Auckland Provincial Council was agreeable to the division of the province into four zones. Representatives of the four zones met in Wellington and with them was Mr G. A. Hayden, secretary of the Dominion Patriotic Funds Board. Agreement was reached for the boundaries of the four zones. Representing the Auckland metropolitan area was Mr F. Ambler, who afterward informed Mr Allum of the agreement reached.
