SUPPLIES FOR GERMANS
NEUTRALS’ TRADE REVIEWED
(Received April 12, 1 p.m.) LONDON, April 11
“The discussions between Mr Edward Stettinius and Mr Anthony Eden today are believed to have been concerned with Allied consultation and collaboration, also with the Allied attitude towards neutrals,” says the Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent. “Britain and America are carefully co-ordinating their action in cases where vital supplies to Germany from a neutral country are likely to prolong German resistance.
“Neutrals whose activities are being most critically watched are, firstly, Turkey, which is sending Germany increased supplies of chrome; secondly, Spain and Portugal, both of which are supplying wolfram; thirdly, Sweden, which although acting within its rights is largely keeping German war industry going with supplies of iron ore; fourthly, Argentina, which in addition to general hostility to the Allied viewpoint is still sending Germany various supplies via Spain.”
