NEW AUSTRALIAN LOAN
£150,000,000 FOR WAR PURPOSES (Received Jan. 18, 1 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 18. An Australian loan of £150,000,000 ■ will be launched on March 28 and will close on May 9. It will be called the “ First Victory Loan” and will be the tenth loan since the outbreak of war. Interest will be 2£ per cent maturing in 1949, and 3$ per cent maturing in 1960. This new loan, said Mr J. Curtin, will bring the total Australian war j borrowing from the public in this i financial year to £278,000,000 and I will bring the total v/ar loan since i the war began to just over '.£700,000,000.
