HAMILTON REGATTA
MANY EXCITING EVENTS “That’s Swell,” remarked a visiting American serviceman when shown the view of the Waikato river from Marlborough Place. “What a wonderful course for a regatta,” he said, and when he learnt that such an event to take place on that stretch of water on Anniversary Day he promised to “boost it up for all he was worth.” He expected that the regatta would be patronised by many overseas servicemen who, he stated, preferred spending their leave in Hamilton to any other place. Speed boat races, rowing races, tug-of-wars and acquaplaning are included in the programme of events and many entries, in all cases, have been received. During the day a demonstration will be given by members of the St. John Ambulance Association, while it is hoped to arrange for an exhibition of “horseshoe pitching,” a favourite American pastime. Side shows will help to keep the crowds amused and refreshments will be available on the grounds.
