TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES STATE THEATRE Two entertalinng films are Included In [ the current programme. “Cowboy serenade” is an exciting Western film which introduces several tuneful songs, including “Cowboy Serenade.” “Sweethearts or Strangers,” “Tahiti Honey” and “Nobody Knows.” Popular Gene Autry has the leading role. “Police Bullets,” a thrilling drama featuring Warren Hymer and Joan Marsh, combines romance and sensation. REGENT THEATRE “The Major and the Minor” is a very amusing romantic comedy, in which Ginger Rogers masquerades as a girl or twelve anti is invoHed in some exciting and funny adventures. Ray Milland is the Major or the title, and or course wins Ginger in the end, although engaged io another girl at. the beginning. The supporting programme i' very interesting, including some scenes of the landing on Sicily and one of tiie popular Ted ilusing supporting 111 ms. THEATRE ROYAL Two or the screen's horror purveyors combine their wickedness to provide chills and thrills in “Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man,” with Ilona Massey, Bela Rugose, ]*dtric Knowles and Ron Chaney in the leading roles. --The Son or Davy Crockett,” with Wild Bill ilickok, is also screened. “Ilei Tiki,” a story or Maori life, will commence a season tomorrow. CIVIC THEATRE A intensely interesting Soviet film, showing the relief or Stalingrad and the capture of German Generals, is a striking feature of the current programme. It visualises the great achievement of the Soviet forces. The story of General Mikhailovich, the leader or the Chetniks, is told in “Chetniks.” Philip Dorn scores a big success In the role of the General. ROXY THEATRE “Pardon My Sarong” shows what happens when the popular comedians, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, get stranded on a tropical island. The fun is fast and furious and keeps the audience in hilarious mood throughout. In effective contrast is “Footsteps in the Dark,” a romantic drama with plenty of action. Errol Flynn and Brenda Marshall have the romantic leads and are supported by an excellent cast.
