FIRE DESTROYS LETTERS

BLAZE IN POSTING BOX (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Saturday A fire in a posting box at Ellerslie i post office just before midnight destroyed about half of a considerable quantity of mail. The building, as well as the rest of the mail was saved as a result of the prompt action of a boy who saw flames through the posting aperture and roused the postmaster. The outbreak was suppressed with a hand extinguisher. It is estimated that fifty letters were lost m the fire, which is attributed to vandalism.
