SCALDED TO DEATH
THREE MEN ON SHIP FOURTH IN SERIOUS CONDITION AUCKLAND, Tuesday A boiler accident on an overesas ship at Auckland yesiterday resulted in three men being scalded to death and a fourth seriously burned. They were— Killed Mr Granville Henry Malins, aged about 30, of 9 William Avenue, Harp of Erin. Mr Duncan MacArthur, aged 33, of 26 Humariri Street, Point Chevalier. A United States seaman. Injured Mr Thomas James Barclay, aged 45, a welder, of 59 Rose Road, Grey Lynn. The men were working in a confined space on boiler equipment at about 3.30 p.m. and were unable to escape when the accident occurred. It was not possible for the rescue party to recover them until the steam had blown itself out, and three of them were then found to be dead. The fourth man, who was very severely scalded, is in a serious condition.
An inquest was opened this morning.
