SOCIAL NOTES

Mrs H. V. Stonell, Waipukarau, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Ray Frazer, Hamilton, will return to her home next week. Mrs Roberts, Masterton, has been visiting Mrs A. Head, Hamilton. Mrs J. Shaw, Whakatane, has been staying in Hamilton. Mrs F. T. Ellison, of Christchurch, accompanied by her two daughters,, Jean and Clarice, are visiting Hamilton. Miss Ivy Gilling, Palmerston North, has been visiting Hamilton Miss Joan Comthwaite, of the W.A.A.F., spent the week-end in Hamilton. An enjoyable evening was spent at the Harmony Hall on Thursday when a social was tendered by the Hamilton staff of Woolworth’s, Limited, to Mr L. J Needham, who has been a member of the staff for several years and has joined the Services. On behalf of the staff Mr McKendry presented the guest-of-honour with a writing companion, suitably inscribed. Items by Messrs M. Irwin, P. Herlihy and G. Maye were enjoyed and Mr G. H. Cumming was the master of ceremonies. The second round of play for the president’s trophy was the fixture at St. Andrew’s last Wednesday. The winner of the trophy was Mrs C. F. O’Connor, whose two bogey cards read 4 down and 1 down, the second round being a very good effort. Mrs J. A. Thomas with an aggregate of 6 down was second, and Mrs F. Harkness with an aggregate of 8 down was third. The “bring and buy” day for the patriotic fund was very successful, the sum of £ll being raised. The first round of the club foursomes have been played and the results are: Mrs Wocller and Mrs Beange beat Mrs Savage and Mrs Magill 5 up and 4, Mrs Scarfe and Mrs Sandford beat Mrs Wake and Mrs Bindon 6 up and 5, Mrs Luckie and Mrs Davison beat Mrs Knight and Mrs Rawlinson 1 up on the 19th.
