VALUES IN WAIKATO GOOD DAIRIES STILL SOUGHT Prices for dairy stock at sales this week have not equalled those obtained at Mr E. Bennett’s dispersal sale at Ohaupo, ; where grade Jersey cows made up to £23 and two-year heifers to £lB 10s, but the demand for quality animals near to profit : continues. . At Mr R. H. Guscott’s clearing sale at i Frankton Messrs Newton King, Limited, ! found competition keen. Top quality young cows realised up to £l2 10s, while top heifers made £l4. The herd of 60 cows, in good condition, averaged £B. The same firm secured an average of £8 9s for the herd of 50 cows at the clear- ! ance sale at Whitehall (Cambridge) for Mr G. White. Best young Jersey cows made £ll 10s. and a line of 14 yearling heifers made £3 15s. At Manawaru good 3-year Jersey heifers found buyers at £ll to £l2. Mr J. Sing’s herd of 69 j cows at Te Rapa averaged £lO Bs. and ‘ top quality young Jersey cows made from £l2 10s to £l4 10s, meeting strong competition. Dairy cows and heifers close to profit were in demand at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s sale at Waihou, cows making to £l3 5s and heifers £lO os. Later calvers realised £6 to £B. At Messrs Dalgety and Company’s Matamata sale top price for forward spring heifers was £lO, while at the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s Otorohanga sale top price for dairy cows was £l2 10s. A whole herd averaged £lO. . Oakford Jersey Stud The Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s sale of the Oakford Jersey Stud, Gordonton, created wide interest, and as the cows were in good condition competition was keen. Two-year-old in-calf heifers realised up to 32 gns., and heifer calves up to oVa gns. Top price for cows was 40 gns. At thr- same firm’s clearing sale on account of Mr S. A. Ferguson, Motumaoho, Jersey-cross cows, close to profit, made up to £ll 15s, with July calvers to £9 15s. At Waihou. on account of the George Estate, top price was £lO for Jersey-Ayrshire-cross cows. The herd came forward in rather light condition and competition was keen. Mr J. Clothier. Matamata. yarded a particularly attractive line of 81 P.A. bullocks at Messrs Dalgety and Company’s sale at Matamata, and they made £l2 to £l3 2s. Fat cows at the Waihou sale made to £7, and heavy boner cows to £5. Light fat bullocks at Otorohanga made £9 to £9 16s. and fat Jersey cows to £6 10s. Fat bullocks at Frankton sold • at rates fully up to the previous week’s prices, while for a medium yarding of fat cows and heifers values were higher. Mr A. R. Gascoigne's line of 21 prime fat bullocks sold to £l2, and averaged £ll ss. Vealers went to £2 10s, and fat P.A. cows £7 10s to £8 os. There was a heavy entry of ox beef at Westfield and competition was steady, but values were slightly easier than last week. Extra choice ox made £ls to £l6 2s 6d (38s per 100 lb.), and extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £lO to £ll 10s (31s to 355). Good Demand for Sheep Top price at the Frankton sale for wethers offered by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company was 365, while 35s 6d and 35s 9d was also secured. | Fat lambs made 395. and fat ewes 19s 6d. There was a large yarding at this sale, and competition was keen throughout. At the Waihou Sale the Farmers' Auctioneering Company obtained 29s to 31s for fat 2-tooth wethers, lighter sorts going to 27s 4d, and store wethers to 24s 3d. Heavy prime fat lambs made to 275. and forward lambs to 19s. Dalgety and Company, at Matamata. secured 25s for medium fat wethers, and 25s for fat lambs. A full entry of first-class mutton was penned at Westfield, but ewes failed to reach last week’s level. An average entry of lambs sold readily and values were fully on a par with late rates Heavy prime lamb made 27s 6d to 28s 9d, small and plain 5s to 18s fid. extra heavy prime wethers 35s to 36s 6d, medium 21s to 32s 6d, heavy prime young and maiden ewes 20s to 21s 6d. . Pies, mostly stores and weaners, penned at the Matamata sale made up to £1 11s fid for stores and 18s for weaners. but sows sold at £6 to £7 2s 6d. medium beconers a* £4 5s and heavy porkers to ,£2 16s. Heavy baconers at the Waihou sale went to £4 16s. porkers to £2 10s. j store pies to 39s fid. and slips to 29s fid. Fat pigs sold well at Otorohanga. at late i rates.
