DOUBLE DROWNING
SILVERSTREAM TRAGEDY CATHOLIC STUDENT AND BOY (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ’ WELLINGTON, Monday. Ernest Berry, aged 26, a student for the Catholic priesthood and a j resident of Mosgiel, and John Edward j Davies, aged 14. of 25 Rugby Street, j Wellington, were drowned in a creek j at the rear of St. Patrick’s College, j Silverstream, at 7.30 p.m. on Satur- , day. . I Berry was visiting Wellington with | his mother and was asked by the | Catholic authorities to take charge of a party of boys going to a camp at Silverstream. Davies was caught in some weed in the stream and Berry went to his assistance. When Berry was also also in difficulties the Rev. Father Kennedy, the prinof St. Patrick’s College, tried to rescue him but almost became the third victim. It took a long time to bring him round and he is still incapacitated.
