“BONDS FOR BOMBERS” HAMILTON DISTRICT TOTAL DOMINION FIGURE £830,000 Every day of “Bonds for Bombers” week in the Waikato has brought a substantial improvement in the returns. The Hamilton district’s total of sales last night was £59,864. Of this sum Hamilton town has contributed £19,030 and the remainder of the district £40,834. Yesterday’s individual totals of the towns throughout the Waikato were:—Hamilton, £8897; Cambridge, £1575; Huntly, £693; Matamata, £1747; Morrinsville, £2167; Ngaruawahia, £579; Otorohanga, £965; Putaruru, £1122; Taumarunui, £1829; Te Awamutu, £3516; Te Kuiti, £1127; total, £29,786. Throughout the Dominion the appeal has met with an extraordinary response. New Zealand’s total last night was more than £830,000, and it is evident that before the week closes the total of sales will be more than £1,000,000. Hamilton’s figures are high on the list of Dominion returns. In spite of short notice the committee performed an excellent feat of organisation and claimed public attention with parades, posters and other devices f o such effect that the district is pressing hard on the heels of me main centres. In the town of Hamilton Monday produced £1265, Tuesday £3820, Wednesday £5048, and Thursday £8897, a total of £19,030. The district figures are very impressive. Monday produced £2750, Tuesday £4508, Wednesday £12,687 and Thursday £20,889, a total of £40,834. The totals for the whole area are: Monday £4015, Tuesday £8328, Wednesday £17,735 and Thursday £29,786, a grand total of £59,864 £192,692 in Auckland The Auckland city total yesterday in the Bonds for Bombers campaign was £63,986, bringing the total for four days to £192,692. Racing People Respond “You’re racing people; you can afford to invest?” was the approach of a young “Bonds for Bombers” saleswoman to the secretary and a former secretary of the Racing Club at Matamata. “Yes,” said Mr B. C. Taylor, the secretary, “three hundred pounds worth.” He produced the cheque and handed it over. The cheque was for the amount the club had the previous evening decided to invest. A little while later she approached the president of the club, Mr J. Tims, who made a personal contribution of £3OO. The total sold on the street at Matamata in the afternoon was £IOSO.
