CHILDREN DROWNED

TRAGEDY IN THE NORTH RAWENE, Wednesday The death by drowning of two Maori children was revealed on Saturday afternoon at Merita Bay, some 20 miles from Mangonui, when their bodies were found on the beach a short distance from their home. They were:—Lui Topata, a boy, aged seven, and Joy Hohaia, aged 11. It is presumed the children became lost and were washed off the rocks in attempting to go home from school along the sea front. An inquest was held at Whapawhiwhi before the district coroner, Mr L. H. Mclntosh, Kaitaia, and a verdict of death by drowning at Merita Bay on March 20 was returned.
