WORKERS PROTEST
CIRCULAR BY EMPLOYERS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday During the hearing of the Dominion painters and decorators’ dispute in Conciliation Council today the union advocate, Mr McAra, made a vigorous protest against the action of the Christchurch Master Painters’ Association in sending a circular to members of the Christchurch union, criticising the action of the New Zealand Union in filing new claims at present. The circular, according to Mr McAra, argued that the claims if pushed would cause a cessation of all painting work owing to prohibitive costs. The employers’ advocate said he had ascertained that out of 2358 members only 168 attended meetings to consider the claims. Mr McAra asked the Commissioner, Mr J. Butland, to take the matter up with his organisation. .Mr Butland: You have made your protest and I have noted it. lam not making any promises about it. Mr McAra said the workers’ assessors felt there should be some expression of regret on the part of the employers.
