UNREDEEMED PLEDGES

INTERESTING OFFERING SPORTS GEAR AT DISCARD A generous assortment of wristlet and pocket watches, jewellery, clothing and sports equipment, expired unredeemed pledges offered by E. C. Day, Limited, on behalf of the Waikato Loan Company, attracted a large section of the public yesterday and in the majority of cases all lots offered met with steady competition. Noticeably, perhaps because sport is being relegated to the background, sets of bowls, golf clubs and other sporting gear failed to elicit a bid. Luxury lines, such as diamond rings, gold bangles and brooches were also at a discard. Watches, however, elicited spirited competition. Clothing, new and second hand, sold well despite the fact that the purchaser in many cases was “buying a pig in a poke’ ’as far as size was concerned. A portable gramophone fetched £4, but a violin failed to raise a bid.
